Mumbai, Feb 16: Bappi Lahiri, the veteran music composer and vocalist who popularised disco music in India in the 1980s and 1990s, died today in Mumbai’s CritiCare Hospital.
His cremation will be held tomorrow, at Pawan Hans Crematorium, Mumbai. Lahiri’s family is waiting for his son, Bappa, to arrive from the US.
From the film industry, actors Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn, Bhumi Pednekar and filmmaker Hansal Mehta paid tributes to the singer. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Ram Nath Kovind also expressed condolences on the death of Bappi Lahiri via Twitter.

Bappi Da was so endearing in person. But, his music had an edge. He introduced a more contemporary style to Hindi film music with Chalte Chalte, Suraksha & Disco Dancer.
