Last rites of Gr. Capt. Varun Singh performed with full military honour

Bhopal, Dec 17: The last rites of Group Captain Varun Singh was performed in Bhopal on Friday with full military honour.

The Group Captain was battling for his life since December 8 and was on life support. He succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday afternoon.

Notably, he was the lone survivor of the Mi-17V5 helicopter crash near Tamil Nadu’s Coonoor on december 8, in which CDS General Rawat , his wife and 11 armed forces personnel were killed.

Group Captain was undergoing treatment at Wellington’s Military Hospital and was later shifted to Air Force Command Hospital in Bengaluru.

Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan paid his last respects to Group Captain Varun Singh at Bairagarh crematorium in Bhopal. He was also present during the cremation. Earlier, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced on Thursday to provide Rs 1 crore compensation to the next of kin of Group Captain Varun Singh.
