Daltonganj, Nov.13: The vaccination drive set up by the Latehar administration at Jatra Mela failed severely as it saw just 10 vaccinations out of the crowd of more than 10,000 people of all age groups. This sad affair happened during the first day of the two-day Palamu Quila Jatra Mela on Friday.
The administration had made a suitable arrangement for vaccination with one bed by the side of the vaccination table. But the bed instead repelled people from taking the jab, fearing that they will have to lie down and then won’t be able to enjoy the Mela that is organized in honour of the great Raja Medinirai.
A health official requesting anonymity informed that only 10 people took the jab during the Mela and that the administration feels disheartened.
However, DC Latehar Abu Imran saw it differently when he said that floating people hardly have any concern for the vaccination. “It is the Mela that grips them most and they hardly bother for any health benefits,” he said.
“Our health officials will pull up the figure of the vaccinations in the coming few weeks,” he added.
Sources said on November 12 more than 3,000 eligible people took the jab. It included both the first and second dose. This number was 1900 on November 11.
The Tika Express car is now being closely monitored and the vaccination figure has slightly improved.
