Daltonganj, March 16: A contingent of the 112 battalion of the CRPF unearthed a modest dump of ammunition of the CPI Maoists in the Latehar district.
Commandant of the 112 battalion of CRPF Pramod Kumar Sahoo said the unearthing of the ammunition was done in the jungle of Tanwai under the Chhipadohar police station in the Latehar district.
Details of the recovery of the ammunition were made available today (Wednesday) while the unearthing was done successfully yesterday (Tuesday).
“Our boys dug out 781 rounds of ammunition of 0.315mm, 24 rounds of 0.303mm and one rusted country-made gun. All these were buried near a Nala. Our boys acted precisely and meticulously. 60 jawans and officials were on the job,” Sahoo said.
Sources said the ammunition was in a jar down the earth. The burial of the ammunition looked pretty old.
The entire operation was led by Commandant Sahoo. The search contingent also had a bomb disposal squad with it. The Chhipadohar police also extended major assistance in the operation.
Human habitation was a bit far from the site where ammunition was dug out. No villager was around during this search and recovery.
Sources said the Bulbul jungle episode has made the security forces extremely cautious and no jawan shows any complacency.
The Bulbul jungle episode is where the Maoists had booby traps all around the area, making the security forces trudge into the jungle like they were walking into a death trap. But here, the security forces uprooted the extremists the way it was never done in the past.
