Daltonganj, Nov 11: Herhunj police in Latehar district cracked a ‘blind’ case of murder in record 6 days.
According to Latehar SP Anjani Anjan, the face of the deceased Kamlesh Oraon (20), a resident of Herhunj in the Latehar district, was crushed beyond recognition with stones. The body was found on November 5 by the Herhunj police which suggested the crime was committed on the night of November 4.
The police lodged a criminal case against unknown persons. The deceased also remained unidentified.
There was no eyewitness account. SP Latehar Anjani Anjan said the first task of the Herhunj police was to get the body identified. They also caught one Manbodh Ganjhu, a resident of Lawalong police station in Chatra district, and the case unfolded after that.
Police recovered 2 stones with which Oraon was hit to death, along with the cell phone of the deceased from Manbodh who was using it by inserting his SIM card. By tracking the device, the police tracked and reached Manbodh.
“Police have recovered blood-stained clothes of both the victim and the killer,” added the SP.
The motive behind this barbaric way of stoning Oraon to death was ‘love’ that the deceased was having or showing to the sister-in-law of Manbodh who in sheer revenge killed Oraon only to be caught and jailed today under section 302 of the IPC.
SP Anjan had a word of praise for the Herhunj police team led by its OC Mukesh Choudhury and others under the supervision of the SDPO Balumath Ajit Kumar and inspector of police Shashi Ranjan Kumar.
The deceased Oraon hailed from while his killer Ganjhu belonged to
