Ranchi, Jan 29: The villagers of Peedi village of Garu police station area of Latehar district gathered and held a Gram Sabha on Saturday over the Peedi Ganai Khar murder case of June 12. The meeting was presided over by Modi Singh, the village head of Peedi.
Dinanath Singh, the victim of Peedi Ganai Khar incident, along with the wife of deceased Brahmdev Singh, Vissar Singh, Dayali Singh, Neeraj Singh, Ramkishore Singh and Lakhan Singh Suryadev of the village were present at the meeting. Even after eight months of the incident, the villagers expressed their displeasure with the police administration for not registering the FIR in the Garu police station and further demanded a job and compensation for the victim’s wife Jiramani from the government.
Notably, five to six tribal youths from Ganai Khar tola of Peedi village were ambushed by security forces over doubts of them being Naxals. The villagers, who are believed to be going to celebrate Sarhul towards the forest with traditional Bharetua weapons, were fired upon by the security forces that mistook them for Naxals. Brahmdev Singh (26), a resident of Peedi Ganai Tola, was killed by the security forces and a villager Dinanath was injured as a result of this. Regarding this incident, an officer of Latehar police registered a case on 24/21 in Garu police station and said that initially, the villagers had fired on the security forces, in retaliation to which, the security forces had to fire in which one Brahmdev Singh had died and a villager Dinanath Singh was injured by a bullet in his hand.
There is anger among the villagers of Peedi village over the incident and the attitude of the police administration and have demanded justice in the matter.
