Bengaluru: Leadership tensions within the Karnataka Congress escalated after Rahul Gandhi sent a brief message to Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, asking him to “wait” as internal pressures mount over a possible change in the Chief Minister’s post. The Congress high command is expected to take a final call before the December 1 Parliament session.
Message After Week-Long Attempts
Sources confirm that Shivakumar had been trying to reach Rahul Gandhi for nearly a week regarding the unfolding political decisions. Gandhi finally responded through WhatsApp, stating, “Please wait, I will call you.” Shivakumar is now preparing to leave for Delhi on November 29 and has requested a meeting with Sonia Gandhi, who is scheduled to arrive on the same day.
Power-Sharing Debate Divides Karnataka Congress
A group of MLAs and ministers loyal to Shivakumar travelled to Delhi to push for leadership transition, citing the alleged “2.5-year power-sharing agreement” between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar. As Siddaramaiah crosses the halfway mark of his term, pressure is rising for a handover. Siddaramaiah’s camp, however, rejects the claim outright and maintains he intends to complete the full five-year term, insisting that no formal pact ever existed.
Congress High Command Maintains Silence — For Now
While tensions between the two factions intensify, the party leadership in Delhi has avoided public commentary. With political jockeying accelerating ahead of Parliament’s winter session, all eyes remain on the high command’s eventual decision and its impact on the stability of the Congress government in Karnataka.
