Daltonganj, July 15: The 14-day leprosy case detection campaign (LDDC), which as per the previous schedule was to conclude on July 14, has now been extended for a week. The campaign will conclude on July 21 now.
This extension of a week is in all the 14 districts of Jharkhand including Palamu.
At the joint press briefing today, Palamu Civil Surgeon Dr Anil Kumar and District Leprosy Officer Dr Anil Kumar Srivastav said this elongation of one week would be again vigorously put to use for scanning of the suspected cases of leprosy.
“We would be pressing teams in those community health centres more from where the number of suspected cases of leprosy has been quite lesser in comparison to other community health centres,” they said.
The two said lesser cases of suspected leprosy could be due to two factors. One there is no complaint of symptoms of the suspected case of leprosy.
“The second factor which makes us concerned is what if our teams have not carried out the scanning of the suspected cases of leprosy also,” they added.
The two said that for both factors the best course is to make the best use of the extended one week for the scanning of the suspected cases of leprosy.
To a query that the scanning teams of LCDC have skipped a large number of houses in the Medininagar municipal corporation areas for the scanning of the suspected cases of leprosy, Dr Anil Kumar said this would be looked into and remedial measures would be put in place fast so that no urban house remains unvisited by the teams for scanning of suspected cases of leprosy.
“We will ask the leprosy consultant, urban district programme manager and scanning teams to ensure that no house whether in the urban area or the rural area is missed for the scanning of the suspected cases of leprosy in this extended one week which is a much needed extension.”
“We welcome the information about scanning the suspected cases of leprosy in the urban areas missing from the media persons. Such feedback is most important for any health drive,” he added.
The CS further said, “We would be urging the Panchayati raj elected representatives to give us feedback about the scanning so far done in the panchayats and wards in the villages.”
The civil surgeon said this mechanism to give a cross-check from the Panchayati raj elected representatives is not an aspersion on the magnificent scanning work carried out by our Sahiyas accompanied by one male member in each of around 2000 teams rather it is to be concretized that our scanning teams.
