Jamshedpur, Aug 3: IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre forecasted light to moderate rain with thundershowers at many places over Jharkhand today.

Weathermen said the depression which caused heavy rain in different parts of Jharkhand over the past couple of days is gradually weakening.

Light to moderate rain with thundershowers is likely at a few places over the state during the next two days – Friday and Saturday.

The deep depression over Gangetic West Bengal moved west-northwestwards with a speed of 20 Kmph

The satellite pictures and other Met readings suggested that the western end of the monsoon trough at mean sea level was running close to the foothills of the Himalayas and the eastern end was passing through Gorakhpur, Gaya, Bankura, centre of deep depression over Gangetic West Bengal and thence east-southeastwards to Northeast Bay of Bengal extending upto 3.1 Km above mean sea level.

Monsoon was active over the state today. The highest rainfall of 148 mm during the past 24 hours was recorded at Majhgaon (West Singbhum).

The widespread and heavy rainfall during the past two days helped bring down the state’s rainfall deficit to 39 %.

The state has so far received 318 mm of rain against a normal of 527 mm.
