New Delhi, Sept 6: Shortly after Boris Johnson met with the monarch to formally tender his resignation, Liz Truss was chosen by Queen Elizabeth II to serve as the United Kingdom’s next prime minister at the Balmoral estate in Scotland.

For the first time during Queen Elizabeth’s seventy-year reign, the transfer of power will take place at Balmoral rather than London’s Buckingham Palace. Rumors regarding the 96-year-old Queen’s health were spread as a result of the ceremony’s shift in site.

After a close fight against former chancellor of Indian descent Rishi Sunak, Liz Truss was voted as the leader of the 172,000 members of the British Conservative Party on the next day.

“The Queen received in Audience The Right Honourable Elizabeth Truss MP today and requested her to form a new Administration,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement.

It further added,”The Queen received in Audience The Right Honourable Elizabeth Truss MP today and requested her to form a new Administration.”

As the nation grapples with serious difficulties on these fronts, particularly as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the Covid pandemic, Truss pledged to deliver in her victory speech on Monday. These crises include the economy, the energy crisis, and the overburdened healthcare system.
