Ranchi, Dec 29: Security personnel engaged in an anti-Naxal operation nabbed two Maoists known as Govind Birjia and Chandrabhan Prasad. Each Maoist carries a bounty of Rs 5 lakh on his head.
The breakthrough came today morning after a brief encounter at Korgo village, Peshrar, about 20km from district headquarters under the Peshrar police station area in Lohardaga district and about 70km from Ranchi.
Notably, both the Maoists are members of Ravindra Ganjhu’s squad.
A police official while informing about the breakthrough said that the encounter started after Maoists opened fire as security personnel reached the village to get information regarding the movement of the extremists in the Peshrar forest area.
Lohardaga is one of the extremist-affected areas of the state. In the Peshrar area of the district, once Maoists had done simultaneous blasting in which several CRPF jawans had sustained injuries. Apart from this, incidents of Naxal violence keep coming from the district.
On November 27 last year, taking a cue from ‘fight a guerrilla like a guerrilla’, Jharkhand police resorted to a poster campaign to take on the extremists operating in the state.
Through the poster, the police asked people to inform them about the movement of extremists in the forest assuring them of proper rewards for the work. Apart from this, the police also promised to keep the name and identity of the informer a secret. Since then, security personnel regularly get information and carry out intelligence-based operations.
