New Delhi, Oct 4: In an effort to assist low-income households, the Union Cabinet approved an extra subsidy of Rs 100 for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders provided to beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana on Wednesday.
“The beneficiaries of Ujjwala Yojana will get a subsidy of Rs 300 instead of Rs 200 after the increase,” Union Minister Anurag Thakur stated.
As part of the Ujjwala Yojana, beneficiaries will now receive a higher subsidy of Rs 300 on gas cylinders, which marks an increase from the previous subsidy of Rs 200. Thus, the total support provided to Ujjwala beneficiaries amounts to Rs 500.
Consequently, Ujjwala beneficiaries will now be able to obtain a gas cylinder at a cost of Rs 600.
Back in August, the cost of LPG cylinders for household usage was reduced by Rs 200 per cylinder for all consumers. However, for Ujjawala beneficiaries, the reduction was twice as much, amounting to Rs 400 per cylinder.
