New Delhi, Oct 28: In the cash-for-query case, the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee on Saturday asked that Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra appear before it on November 2 rather than October 31. The committee further declared that no further extensions would be allowed.
Writing to the Ethics Committee, which is looking into the charges against Moitra, on Friday, she stated that she would not be able to come before them on October 31 and that she would only be available after November 5.
The Lok Sabha Ethics Committee asked her to depose before it on November 2 and prolonged the date of appearance by three days in response.
However, the committee declared that it would not consider any more requests for further extension.
The panel is looking into allegations made by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey that Moitra took money and favours in exchange for asking questions in the Lok Sabha at businessman Hiranandani’s behest. On Thursday, Dubey and lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai provided “oral evidence” to the committee regarding the Trinamool Congress MP.
Moitra stated that she ought to be allowed “a fair hearing and an adequate opportunity to defend myself against the false, malicious and defamatory accusations levelled against me by Shri Dubey and Shri Dehadrai”.
