Maharashtra boy shocks second seed at national tennis meet in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur,  June 8:  The 15- year -old boy from Maharashtra shocks the second seed in the Men’s Open Singles category at the ongoing Tata Steel AITA Men’s National Ranking 1 Lac Prize Money Tennis Tournament 2023, held at the synthetic courts of the JRD Tata Sports Complex.

Arnav Vijay Paparkar of Maharashtra, unseeded in the Men’s Open Singles draw played a long 3 hour 50 minutes quarter-final match against 2nd seeded Abhinansu Borthakur of Bengal to upset the seed by a nail-biting 3-6,6-1,7-5.

Paparkar will face Odisha’s Pratyush Mohanty in the semi-final tomorrow who in turn got the better of Arunava Majumder, also in a 3-setter battle. Mohanty won by 6-1,3-6,6-4.

Top-seeded Atharva Sharma of Maharashtra had an easy day on Wednesday as he went past statemate Arnav Kokane by a comfortable 6-2,6-0.

Sharma will meet Bengal Ritabrata Sarkar in the semi-finals today. Sarkar won against 6th seeded Md Fardeen by a straight 7-5,6-0.

Today, the matches began at the JRD Tata Sports Complex at 8 am.
