Mumbai, June 25: The 16 Shiv Sena rebel MLAs from the Eknath Shinde camp who are now camped out in Guwahati have received a disqualification notice from the Deputy Speaker of the Maharashtra Assembly. They have till June 27 to submit their written responses, according to Indian news agency ANI.
The national executive of the Shiv Sena, whose meeting was presided over by CM Uddhav Thackeray this afternoon, adopted a resolution prohibiting the use of the party’s name or that of Balasaheb Thackeray to form a new organization. This happened as a result of Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde’s decision to rebrand his faction as ‘Shiv Sena Balasaheb’ which is in uprising against CM Uddhav Thackeray.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Police on Saturday imposed Section 144 across the city until July 10 amid escalating political tension. Tanaji Sawant, a Sena lawmaker who is currently camped out in Guwahati, Assam, was one of the rebel MLAs who had their offices ransacked by Shiv Sena members in Pune on Saturday.
“A member of our party damaged Tanaji Sawant’s office. This sort of action will be taken against all traitors and dissident MLAs who have harmed our chief, Uddhav Thackeray. They’ll also be attacked at their office… No one will be spared,”according to Sanjay More, head of the Pune Shiv Sena.
