New Delhi, June 30: Star Indian shuttler PV Sindhu On Thursday defeated Thailand’s Phittayaporn Chaiwan in an incredible comeback victory to advance to the quarterfinals of the Malaysia Open competition.
She surprised everyone by winning 19-21, 21-9, 21-14 to advance to the quarterfinals. In the match, playing on Court 1, Sindhu overcame a challenging test against Thailand’s Chaiwan. In game one, Sindhu was defeated 19–21.
In the second game of the match, Sindhu made a tremendous comeback and defeated her opponent completely, winning 21-9. The two-time Olympic gold took the lead and won the third game of the match 21-14 to guarantee her place in the quarterfinals.
In the quarterfinal, second-seeded Tai Tzu-ying will compete against Sindhu.
After that, Chou Tien-chen of Chinese Taipei, ranked fourth in the world, was defeated by HS Prannoy in straight games, 21-15, 21-17, to pull off a major upset and advance to the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, Parupalli Kashyap and the doubles team of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will be vying for a spot in the quarterfinals as the day goes on.
