Ranchi, April 21: In an incident of man-animal conflict, two members of a family died while one sustained injuries in a bear attack at Ambera Nagasia Toli, about 60 km from the Jharkhand capital under Bharno police station area of Gumla district.

The incident took place in the morning around 5.30 am when they were on their way to the crop field.

Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Gumla Srikant Verma confirmed the incident saying that one person died on the spot while another died during treatment at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Ranchi.

“Lalit Oraon (55) died on the spot while his elder son Subhash Oraon (35) died at RIMS while undergoing treatment. Lalit’s younger son Mangleshwar (Oraon) is undergoing treatment and is stable,” Verma said confirming the incident.

Asked the reason behind the conflict, Verma said, “Due to scorching summer incidents of fire have risen in the forest and there is also a scarcity of water. In this situation bears, which experience too hot due to hair on the body, come out in search of water and apparently, this caused the conflict today.”

Asked about the precautionary measures to avoid such an incident, DFO Verma said, “Men have been deputed in conflict and have been instructed to remain extra alert at dawn and dusk.”

In another incident of conflict, an elephant destroyed the boundary walls of two residential premises in Tiril under the Dhurwa police station area. The place is in the Jharkhand capital.

Officer-in-charge of Dhurwa police station Praveen Kumar confirmed the incident saying that there was one elephant that came from the Nagri side and went towards the Dhurwa dam.
