Jamshedpur, March 29: The court of Principal District and Sessions Judge, Chaibasa on Wednesday sentenced a 60-year-old man Mansa Hapdagda to five years of rigorous imprisonment after finding him guilty in a case registered under NDPS Act.
A resident of Kaika village under the Bandgaon thana area in West Singhbhum, Mansa had been arrested for carrying out poppy cultivation at his village and producing opium.
A team of police officials from Bandgaon had on March 21, 2022 carried out a raid on the Kaika village and destroyed a sizable number of poppy plants grown on a plot of land.
According to the prosecution, the police team when came to know that the poppy cultivation was being done by Mansa Hapdagda, it raided his house and recovered semi-finished opium from his house.
Apart from the crime of indulging himself in growing poppy plants and manufacturing opium, Mansa had also tried to attack the raiding police team with an axe but was overpowered by the cops. The police had then arrested Mansa on charges of growing poppy plants, manufacturing opium and also for attacking the police team.
