Ranchi, June 26: The counting of votes for the by-election to the Mandar assembly seat in Jharkhand’s Ranchi district started at 8 am amid tight security. Over 61.25 percent of about 3.5 lakh voters exercised their franchise in the election, held on June 23.
Officials have now begun to see the trends. As per officials counting in the fourth round, Congress is ahead with 16166 votes in the counting of votes of the Mandar by-election. BJP is in the second position with 14816 votes, while AIMIM is in the third place with 6155 votes.
Congress’s Shilpi Neha Tirkey received 12053 votes, while BJP’s Gangotri Kujur got 10905 votes. Dev Kumar Dhan got 4715 votes so far. A total of 31623 votes have been counted by the end of the third round of counting.
Earlier, Congress was ahead in the first round. Congress candidate Shilpi Neha Tirkey got 3990 votes, whereas BJP candidate Gangotri Kujur had received 3940 votes, while Dev Kumar Dhan had 1585 votes by the end of the first round.
Meanwhile, the second round had BJP ahead. BJP candidate Gangotri Kujur received 8041 votes, while Congress candidate Shilpi Neha Tirkey got 7929 votes. Dev Kumar was at number three. He has got 3048 votes. On the fourth number is Subhash Munda, with 1256 votes. Till the second round, 229 votes have been counted under NOTA.
Gangotri Kujur had 10905, Shilpi Neha Tirkey had 12053, Subhash Munda had 2233, Dinesh Oraon had 225, Rekha Kumari had 102, Shivpal Lohra had 49, Agni Tirkey had 218, Ashok Oraon had 69, Anand Paul Tirkey had 60, John Tirkey had 88, Dev Kumar Dhan had 4715, Neeraj Oraon had 122, Marshal Barla had 204, Sushil Oraon had 269 votes, while 311 votes were registered as NOTA out of 31623 total votes counted at the end of the third round.
Notably, the by-poll was necessitated after the disqualification of Bandhu Tirkey as an MLA in the wake of his conviction in a corruption case. A special CBI court in Jharkhand had on March 28 sentenced Tirkey to three years imprisonment.
