Imphal, May 30: The Manipur government and the Central government on Tuesday announced compensation packages for people who died in the state’s ethnic war. According to officials, a compensation of Rs 10 lakh has been announced.
Additionally, one family member of the dead will receive employment. The state and the centre would split the cost of the compensation in half, officials added.
During a meeting between Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh and Union Home Minister Amit Shah late on Monday, the decision to announce compensation was made.
Officials said, it has also been decided to set up special telephone lines that will be used to put an end to rumor-mongering, which has negatively impacted efforts to defuse the situation and restore peace to the unrest-plagued state.
Shah’s meeting also determined to make sure that necessities like petrol, LPG gas, rice and other food items would be made widely available to lower prices.
Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla and Director of the Intelligence Bureau Tapan Kumar Deka travelled with the home minister on Monday night to Imphal.
