Ranchi, Jan.21: Carrying assault rifle AK-47, the Maoist Zonal commander Maharaj Pramanik surrendered before I.G (operation) of Jharkhand A.V.Homkar and Zonal IG Pankaj Kamboj in the Jharkhand capital.
With this, all the speculation about Pramanik’s connection with police for the last six months came to an end.
Homkar termed the surrender as a great success for Jharkhand police.
“Now the Naxalites are getting disillusioned with the organization. Maharaj Pramanik has also admitted that Naxalite organizations do not have any ideology. Their goal is limited to levy collection,” Homkar said announcing the surrender.
Pramanik was wanted in more than two dozen Naxalite incidents. He had carried out many incidents, including Kukuruhat, Lanji of Seraikela. On 14 June 2019, Maoists led by Pramanik attacked police forces at Kukuruhat in Seraikela and killed five policemen.
Pramanik’s squad was also accused of killing three policemen in the IED blast in Lanji in March 2021. Along with the state police, the NIA was also looking for Pramanik. The state police had placed a reward of ten lakhs on Maharaj.
Last year Maoist spokesperson Ashok had issued a press statement saying that Maharaj had come out of the organization three times before July 2021 on the pretext of treatment. During this he came in contact with the police.
He had said that after the organization came to know about this, on August 14, he left the organization silently. While escaping from the organization, he took away Rs 40 lakhs cash and an AK 47 rifle along with 150 rounds of ammunition and a pistol.
