Daltonganj, July 20: A trekker of the Palamu Tiger Reserve (PTR), Dev Kumar Prajapati, 42, was beaten to death by a contingent of the CPI Maoists at Douna village under the Bareysanr range of the Netarhat police station area on Wednesday night.

Latehar SP Anjani Anjan has confirmed the death of the trekker by the merciless beating by the Maoists last night.

The SP said the Maoists branded Prajapati as an informant to the police which is a piece of falsehood.

Anjani Anjan said Prajapati was never any mole of the local police. “Maoists always use lies to cover up their unlawful act like this beating of the trekker to death,” asserted Anjan.

The assailant Maoists were led by Chhotu Kharwar.

The officer-in-charge of the Netarhat police station Bandhan Bhagat said, “The Maoists did not use any firearms.”

“Two or three villagers were also thrashed by the Maoists,” said Bhagat.
