New Delhi, July 17: Margaret Alva, a veteran Congress leader and former Union minister, has been chosen by the opposition party to be its vice presidential candidate.
The decision was announced by NCP chief Sharad Pawar after an all-party meet by the opposition parties.
“Margaret Alva will represent the opposition in the race for vice president of India,” said NCP leader Sharad Pawar.
“We tried to contact West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee but she was busy in some conference. We also tried to contact Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal. He announced support (for Yashwant Sinha) a few days ago and will announce his support (for Margaret Alva) soon,” he added.
Jagdeep Dhakhar, the governor of Bengal, was named by the NDA as the country’s next vice president on Saturday, according to the BJP. Following a meeting of the party’s parliamentary board in Delhi to consider their selection, BJP leader JP Nadda made the news.
