Dhanbad, Sept 30: All the 500 MBBS seats in the Jharkhand government-owned five medical colleges were filled up on the last date of admission in the 2023 academic session today.
Though classes of the 2023 batch students started across the country on September 1, the National Medical Commission (NMC) had fixed September 30 as the last date of admission on permissible quota in all the institutions ( medical colleges).
The Jharkhand government-owned Mahatma Gandhi Memorial medical College Hospital (MGMMCH) Jamshedpur, Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad, Phulo Jhano Medical College Hospital (PJMCH) Dumka, Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) Hazaribagh and Medinirai Medical College Hospital MMCH ) Palamu have permission of 100 MBBS seats each.
After completion of the third round of counselling on September 22, a total of 17 seats remained vacant in the state medical colleges-six in MGMMCH, four each in SNMMCH, PJMCH, two in SBMCH and one in MMCH.
However, on the last day today, MGMMCH Jamshedpur principal Dr KN Singh said that all 100 MBBS seats, including 83 state quota, 15 All India quota and 2 central nominees got filled up.
PJMCH Dumka principal Dr Arun Kumar Choudhary and SNMMCH Dhanbad admission in-charge Dr Ganesh Kumar also said that all four seats of their institutions were filled up today on the last date.
SBMCH Hazaribagh Principal Dr. SK Singh said that two seats (one each under all India quota and state quota) were vacant in three rounds of counselling and selected candidates took admission today. One seat was vacant in MMCH Palamu and admission in-charge Dr Atul Prakash said today the last seat also got filled up.
In the 2022 academic session, two seats remained vacant (one handicapped quota seat each) in SBMCH Hazaribagh and SNMMCH Dhanbad. Last year, SNMMCH Dhanbad had only 50 MBBS seats’ permission but this year NMC has granted 100 seats’ approval.
