New Delhi, Dec 4: As voting for the Delhi Municipal Corporation election begins, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has petitioned the Election Commission for harsh action against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), alleging violations of the Model Code of Conduct and election rules.

Additionally, the party claimed that several names had been removed from the voter list. According to BJP MP Manoj Tiwari, if the allegations are proven to be accurate, his party will run for office again.

“On the basis of video evidence of a violation of MCC and election guidelines last night by Durgesh Pathak and Vijendra Garg of AAP, BJP has approached EC for stringent action,” the Delhi BJP said in a tweet.

The high-stakes civic election in Delhi, which is primarily considered as a three-way race between the AAP, BJP, and Congress, saw a total turnout of 18% of eligible voters as of 12 p.m.

In the elections for the 250 wards of the MCD, there are 1,349 candidates running, and over 1.45 crore voters are eligible to cast a ballot. The outcomes of these elections could have an impact outside of the national capital.

The polls will be open from 8 am to 5:30 pm. The counting of votes will take place on December 7.
