New Delhi, Sept 20: In light of “growing anti-India activities and politically-condoned hate crimes and violence in Canada,” the Indian government on Wednesday issued an advisory for Indian citizens and students in that country, advising them to proceed with the utmost caution.
The announcement was made in response to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s claims of an alleged “potential” role for Indian agents in the purported killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
The Ministry of External Affairs’ spokesperson, Arindam Bagchi, shared the advisory on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“In view of growing anti-India activities and politically-condoned hate crimes and criminal violence in Canada, all Indian nationals there and those contemplating travel are urged to exercise utmost caution. Recently, threats have particularly targeted Indian diplomats and sections of the Indian community who oppose the anti-India agenda. Indian nationals are therefore advised to avoid travelling to regions and potential venues in Canada that have seen such incidents”, the Ministry of External Affairs advisory stated.
