Ranchi, April 3: 35-years-old Shyam Sundar got a fresh lease of life after the intervention of the doctors of MEDICA where for the first time in Jharkhand ascending aortic aneurysm was treated by an open heart surgery which earlier was only available in the top-notch hospitals of the country.
According to cardiac surgeon at Medical Dr Sunil Kumar the patient came in with difficulty in breathing where after diagnosis it was revealed that the patient had a bicuspid aortic valve, severe aortic stenosis and ascending aortic aneurysm.
“An ascending aortic aneurysm is a weak spot in the top part of the aorta, which is the main artery in the body. The aneurysm bulges outward, and may cause blood vessel wall to tear or break open which is a life-threatening condition,” Dr Sunil explained.
Dr Sunil said that the patient was in a very bad condition and in such a condition generally the patient dies as they have to travel either Delhi or Kolkata for treatment.
“At Medica an open heart surgery was performed on the patient where the heart was stopped for nearly two and half hours. The surgery went on for six long hours and finally his aortic valve was replaced and the ascending aortic aneurysm was repaired,” Dr Sunil added.
He said that presently the patient is doing well and is being discharged from the hospital today.
