Khunti, June 26: A mega health fair was organised at the Birsa College campus of Khunti district on Sunday under the new initiative Tribal Dialogue on the topic ‘Abua Bugin Swathya’ ie ‘Our better health’. The programme was organised by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India in collaboration with the local district administration.
More than 60 thousand rural women and men were examined by more than 350 specialist doctors of different fields from major hospitals across the country. Around one lakh people had thronged the stadium.
The chief guest of this programme was Jharkhand Governor Ramesh Kumar Bais, who was present on the occasion along with Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Arjun Munda.
Padma Bhushan and Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker Karia Munda, local MLAs Koche Munda and Neelkanth Singh Munda, Secretary and Joint Secretary, Ministry of Tribal Affairs Anil Kumar Jha and Naval Kapoor, Deputy Commissioner Khunti Shashi Bhushan, Superintendent of Police Khunti along with many eminent doctors, including Anupam Sachdeva from Sir Ganga Ram hospital, New Delhi from all over the country attended the programme.
General examination along with check up for all major diseases was done free-of-cost, along with distribution of medicines. Notably, ALIMCO also provided artificial limb devices to 3000 differently abled people. More than 100 people donated blood, while eyeglasses were given to 25000 people.
In his address, Governor Bais said that programme was a great initiative. “Our tribes have an unforgettable contribution in the freedom of the country. Jharkhand is the land of heroes. Amrit Mahotsav of freedom is being celebrated all over the country, good health brings true happiness,” the Governor added.
Governor Bais further said, “I am sure people will be treated better in this health fair today, and such efforts will be taken at village levels also. Only then its benefit will reach the common people.” After the completion of the programme, he also took stock of all the health checkup stalls.
Addressing the audience, Union Minister Arjun Munda said that he was proud to have organised a health fair on such level. “We will continue to organise such events in future also.
Munda further said that the Government of India is celebrating the 75th Amrit Mahotsav of Independence. “Today we need to understand each other, then will we progress for the country.” He further said that the tribals do not need to be explained, they need to be understood.
He further added, “Today the Government of India has chosen a tribal woman from the state as the presidential candidate and it is a matter of great pride that for the first time a tribal woman will become the President.”
Notably, the Abua Bugin Swasthya Mela (Our Better Health) was organised with the aim to provide better health care to the residents, and so that they can be better treated at home.
Karia Munda, MLAs Neelkanth Singh Munda and Koche Munda, Deputy Commissioner Khunti, Secretary Tribal Ministry and prominent doctors related to this project also spoke in turn on the occasion.

Also present on the occasion was Dr Abhishek Singh Munda, son of Union Minister Arjun Munda who examined the patients. Dr. Abhishek served in Khunti along with the senior doctor of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and the country’s renowned hematologist Dr. Anupam Sachdeva. “I got an opportunity to serve the tribal community in the parliamentary constituency of my father. I will always be ready for this kind of service in future and will wait for such opportunities,” said Dr Munda.
More than 300 doctors including specialist doctors of pediatric, gyenac, dental, cancer, ortho, cardiac, skin, stomach, neuro, eye, uro, diabetes, blood diseases among other specialties were present. Free medicines were also given after checking for common diseases in the camp. Apart from this, specialists related to plastic surgery, stem cell therapy and other facilities were also available at the camp.
