NAGPUR: In a shocking incident at Nagpur Railway Station early Monday morning, a mentally challenged man attacked a group of people sleeping on Platform 6, killing at least two and injuring three others, two of them critically. The assailant used a concrete sleeper slab, typically found on railway tracks, to bludgeon his victims.
The attack left one of the victims, identified as Ganesh Kumar, a 40-year-old resident of Tamil Nadu, dead on the spot. The second victim, an unidentified homeless man, also succumbed to his injuries. Three other individuals sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment.
The incident occurred when the assailant attacked a group of six to seven individuals who were sleeping on the platform. A patrolling team from the Government Railway Police (GRP) heard the commotion and rushed to the scene, managing to restrain the attacker.
The 45-year-old assailant, who attempted to flee the scene, was apprehended by the police. A case of murder has been registered against him, and an investigation into the motive and details surrounding the attack is underway.
Following the incident, security measures have been tightened at the Nagpur Railway Station to ensure the safety of passengers.
