MGMMCH doctor’s assault: Jharkhand IMA serves ultimatum to book culprits

Ranchi, Sept 20: Taking a serious note of brutal assault on a doctor at Mahtma Gandhi Memorial Medical College amd Hospital (MGMMCH) Jamshedpur, the state chapter of Indian Medical Association (IMA) has expressed concern over the incident and served ultimatum to the East Singhbhum district administration or face agitation of medicos’ fraternity,

IMA state vice-president of Kolhan division Dr AK Lal said that the IMA condemned brutal assault on a doctor on the duty in the hospital for his no fault and demands immediate arresting of people involved in the incident.

Notably, the family members of a child  badly beat up a junior doctor, Dr Kamlesh Oraon, deployed in the paediatric ward on Monday night after death of the child patient in the hospital,  and fled away with the body before the hospital authorities swung into action.

The assaulter family members who arrived in the hospital in10 to 15 numbers after death of the patient abused, beat up Dr Oraon and hit him with a weapon.
In this regard the victim doctor lodged an FIR in the Sakchi Police station (Jamshedpur).
“The incident has created panic among doctors of not only MGMMCH but also  at all government as well as private  hospitals/ clinics in  the districts of Kolhan  Division. So, the IMA demands immediate arresting of  all the assaulters involved  in the incident so that medicos feel a sense of  security while serving the patients,” said Dr AK Lal, vice-president, state IMA.

Meanwhile, the district administration has called  a meeting today in the afternoon to discuss over the demand of the IMA and security of  doctors at the hospital,
On Tuesday, the doctors at MGMMCH had boycotted  the OPD in protest of the incident but called off on assurance of  the district administration.
