Hazaribag, Aug. 1: The Sadar Police have arrested three thieves who were behind committing theft in the house of a retired excise department constable last week. The thieves caught included the milkman, who the police said, was the mastermind of this case. Stolen jewellery worth seven lakhs has been recovered from them.
Sadar Subdivisional Police Officer Mahesh Prajapati said the three accused included Purushottam Kumar and Bunty Kumar, residents of Kumhartoli and Raj Gupta, residents of Qazi Mohalla. All the accused looted jewellery worth Rs 15 lakhs from the house of Ajay Gupta, a retired constable of the excise department living near Bansilal Chowk.
Prajapati said at a press conference on Tuesday that on July 27, Ajay Kumar Gupta’s house near Banshilal Chowk was looted. Jewellery worth Rs 12 lakhs were stolen. Gupta had registered a case in the Sadar police station in this regard.
On the instructions of SP Manoj Ratan Chauthe, a team was formed under the leadership of the Sadar SDPO. The team investigated this case taking the help of the technical team.
On July 31, on the basis of secret information, the police arrested two accused, Purushottam Yadav and Raj Gupta near Kumhartoli. At first, both of them refused to say anything during interrogation. But when the police maintained strictness, both of them accepted their involvement in the theft case. Also, they named Bunty as the third associate in this case.
On the basis of the confessional statement of the three, the stolen jewellery was recovered from the house. The main mastermind and conspirator of this incident was Purushottam Yadav, who used to go to Ajay Gupta’s house to deliver milk. So he was having complete information about the house.
