Mount Maunganui, March 6: Mithali Raj, the captain of India’s women’s team, reached a major milestone on Sunday during the ongoing Women’s World Cup match against arch-rivals Pakistan.
Mithali Raj became the first woman to play in six ODI World Cups as she took the field for Team India’s tournament opener against Pakistan at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui. The experienced batter first appeared in the World Cup in 2000, then again in 2005, 2009, 2013, 2017, and now in 2022.
She beat out Debbie Hockley, a former New Zealand cricketer, and England’s Charlotte Edwards. She is only the second Indian cricketer to play in six ODI World Cups, following Sachin Tendulkar.
Raj joins Sachin Tendulkar and Pakistan’s Javed Miandad as the only cricketers to have appeared in six ODI World Cups.
Meanwhile, in the ongoing Women’s World Cup match, India won the toss and chose to bat against Pakistan. India had given a target of 245 runs to Pakistan with Vastrakar, Rana’s 50s.
