BJP leader and veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty launched a scathing attack on the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during a public rally in Cooch Behar, West Bengal. He expressed concerns over law and order, communal harmony, and alleged that efforts were underway to destabilize the state.
Allegations of Cultural Suppression and Threats
Chakraborty accused the state of suppressing cultural and religious freedom. He referred to an incident involving singer Lagnajita Chakraborty, who was allegedly threatened for singing devotional songs. He also mentioned the arrest of protestors related to the Dipu Das case, suggesting that dissent in Bengal was being curtailed.
BJP Workers Under Attack, Says Mithun
He claimed that BJP workers, including women, were facing violence in the state and warned TMC that the situation must improve. Referring to the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits, he compared the current state of affairs to that scenario, saying Bengal was being made into “another Pakistan or Bangladesh.”
Rebukes Mamata’s Comments on Amit Shah
Mithun strongly criticized Mamata Banerjee for her remarks about Union Home Minister Amit Shah, accusing her of treating Bengal like a separate nation. He warned that preventing a central minister from entering the state would be disastrous for democracy and emphasized that Bengal is an inseparable part of India.
Promises Ayushman Bharat if BJP Comes to Power
Attacking the TMC over poor governance, Mithun said there was no real development in Bengal — no industries, no jobs, and no proper healthcare. He accused the state government of blocking the Ayushman Bharat scheme out of fear that it would boost Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s popularity. He assured that if BJP forms the government, implementing Ayushman Bharat would be a top priority.
Calls for United Opposition Against TMC
He appealed to all opposition forces — including Congress, Left parties, and disillusioned TMC supporters — to unite in the upcoming elections to bring about a change in Bengal’s leadership.
