Congress included Lalsanglura Ralte from the Aizwal East-I constituency, which is currently represented by Mizo National Front (MNF) president and Chief Minister Zoramthanga, on the initial list of 39 candidates that the party released on Monday.

Mizo National Front won the 2018 elections by winning 26 seats in the 40-member Mizoram assembly with a vote share of 37.8%. Five seats were won by the Congress, and one by the BJP.
