Koderma, April.28: Due to non-availability of a degree college in Satgawan block, the students of the area have no other option but to get enrolled in a college at neighbouring Nawada in Bihar. Every year about two to three thousand students pass the intermediate examination in this block but instead of taking admission in a college at Koderma town, they prefer Nawada College in Bihar. The reason is Nawada College is only 35km away from Satgawan but Koderma district headquarter is situated 60 km away from here.
But now the dream of the students waiting for higher education in this far-flung block of the district with a population of about one lakh will soon become true. The state-of-the-art building of the model degree college constructed at the cost of Rs 14 crore is now ready. The Higher and Technical Education Department is behind the construction of this college and preparations have started for its handover to the department.
Former education Minister Neera Yadav and MP Ravindra Rai had laid the foundation stone of the model degree college to be built at a cost of Rs 14 crores in 2018, near Gayatri Ashram, Naraydih. The model degree college has been constructed by the building construction corporation.
Amit Kumar, executive engineer of the Corporation said that before handing over the building, a letter has been written to Vinoba Bhave University asking it to inspect the site so that if there
is any kind of error in it, it can be rectified. He informed that the building will be handed over after site inspection from the university level. In the newly constructed college building, all the facilities were made available keeping in mind the students.
Students said they are eagerly waiting for its inauguration followed by its functioning. The compulsion to enrol in Nawada and Koderma will end with its functioning, added they with a smile. They said due to the non-availability of degree college, many students are not able to study after intermediate. For girls, if they get enrolled in college, they are not able to attend regular classes due to distance. This forces them to leave their studies in the middle and their premature marriage takes place.
The 20-point programme block president, Vijay Singh, said that Satgawan block is backward in the field of education. With the construction of a model degree college in Satgawan block, now the daughters of the area will not be deprived of higher education. He said that the Jharkhand government should immediately inaugurate the newly constructed college so that people belonging to economically weaker sections can get its benefits.
