Melbourne: India and Australia sealed a uranium deal on Thursday, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announcing agreements across defence, trade, energy, space and critical minerals during a joint press conference following their meeting in Melbourne.

Modi, Albanese Jointly Address CEO Forum and Business Reception

Prime Minister Modi joined Australian PM Anthony Albanese in Melbourne to jointly address the India-Australia CEO Forum and the Economic Roadmap Business Reception. Both events were attended by leading chief executives and industry figures from India and Australia, along with representatives of institutional investors and vice-chancellors of top Australian universities. Addressing the CEO Forum, Modi said India’s strong economic growth, policy reforms, digital transformation and rapidly evolving innovation ecosystem were creating new business opportunities for Australian partners.

Modi Highlights Investment Opportunities Across Key Sectors

Modi outlined extensive opportunities available in India across sectors including manufacturing, clean energy, infrastructure, urban development, aviation, logistics, critical minerals, mining, advanced technology, artificial intelligence, financial technology, food processing and the digital economy. He emphasised that India’s scale combined with Australia’s expertise would prove mutually beneficial for both nations, and invited Australian investors to take advantage of long-term investment opportunities in India while welcoming the growing presence of Australian universities in the country.

Over 200 CEOs Attend Business Reception, Leaders Share a Selfie

Following his remarks at the CEO Forum, Modi also shared his views at the Economic Roadmap Business Reception, which was attended by more than 200 chief executives and industry leaders from both countries. Notably, Modi and Albanese took a selfie together after participating in both the India-Australia CEO Forum and the Economic Roadmap Business Reception.
