Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed confidence in a third consecutive victory for the NDA in Assam while sharply attacking the Indian National Congress during a rally in Gogamukh. He said the large turnout at the event reflected strong public support and indicated a clear mandate for the alliance.
Attack on Congress and Governance Claims
Modi accused Congress of pursuing appeasement politics and alleged that the party had earlier attempted to introduce a “communal violence law” aimed at consolidating its vote bank. He claimed that under the leadership of Sarbananda Sonowal and Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam has witnessed a decade of improved governance and development. He also alleged that Congress is willing to take extreme steps to regain power.
Election Narrative and Development Pitch
The Prime Minister described the ongoing elections as crucial for transforming Assam into a developed state as part of a broader “Developed India” vision. He further accused Congress of attempting to alter the demographic balance by settling outsiders in the state, asserting that his government would protect the rights of indigenous communities, farmers, and tribal populations.
Outreach to Tea Garden Workers
Earlier, Modi visited a tea garden in Dibrugarh, where he interacted with workers, especially women, and praised their contribution to Assam’s identity and economy. He highlighted their hard work as a symbol of the state’s pride and cultural heritage.
