Surat, April 13: A Surat’s sessions court has reserved its order on Rahul Gandhi’s plea seeking a stay on his conviction over the Modi surname remark.

The court has deferred its decision following the presentation of all parties’ arguments.  The court will pronounce the decision on April 20.

Both parties began presenting their cases in the court of Additional Sessions Judge RP Mogera on Thursday. Judge Mogera has received Gandhi’s appeal against the decision.

Gandhi described his conviction as “erroneous” and blatantly twisted in his appeal. In a criminal defamation case brought against him for his claimed “Modi surname” comment, Rahul Gandhi was found guilty. The court has given him a two-year prison term.

Rahul Gandhi was found guilty in accordance with IPC Section 500. The maximum penalty under this clause is two years in prison.
