Mohali, March 6: Indian spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin took eight wickets to help the hosts beat Sri Lanka by an innings and 222 runs in the first test at Mohali.
Rohit Sharma’s tenure as India’s test captain has gotten off to a flying start, and his side will go into the second and final match in Bengaluru, which will be played under lights starting on Saturday, with a 1-0 lead.
Jadeja’s left-arm spin tangled Sri Lanka’s batting in knots in the first innings, pulling up a five-wicket haul as the touring team were swept out for 174, a day after his unbeaten 175.
With a 400-run lead, India forced a follow-on and knocked Sri Lanka out for 178 in the last session.
