New Delhi, Sept 18: Mohammad Shami tested positive for covid and will not play in the three T20 matches against Australia. Umesh Yadav has been called in as a replacement, despite the fact that he last featured in a T20I in February 2019 against Australia.
After receiving harsh criticism for his 10-month absence from the T20 squad, Mohammad Shami was selected as a stand-by for the world T20 squad.
Yadav is now undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore after suffering a quad muscle injury while playing for Middlesex in the English county season.
As of right now, it’s unclear whether the symptoms are minor or dangerous. When Shami is deemed match-fit, the medical staff will decide whether or not to allow him to play in the three T20 games against South Africa.
The Indian squad will play its first Twenty20 match against Australia on September 20 in Mohali, and then on September 23 and 25 in Nagpur and Hyderabad, respectively, it will play its second and third Twenty20 matches.
