Dhanbad, Aug 18: The security system at Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) was exposed second time in a month on Tuesday night when a molestation attempt was made on an attendant of a patient in the orthopaedics ward.

Hospital authorities said the accused was arrested by police on the spot at night.

The victim attendant belongs to the Giridih district and her patient was admitted on bed no. 80 in the orthopaedics ward since Sunday. Eye witness nurses said the incident took place at 9.30 pm. The victim woman had gone to the washroom. The accused too followed her and tried to molest her.

The woman protested and called for help.  Nurses of the ward rushed to the spot. Having seen nurses and security personnel running towards him, the accused locked himself in the washroom.  Police also reached and arrested him.

Dr DP Bhushan, head of the department of orthopaedics said that the accused also belongs to Giridih district and he used to visit a patient admitted on 88 no. bed in the ward.

“Entry of outsiders in the ward is totally banned. After this incident,  the orthopaedics department has decided to allow attendants of patients in the ward only after proper identification,” said Dr Bhushan.

Saraidhela police station officer-in-charge said that the victim’s father has been called from Giridih to get a complaint about the incident so that an FIR  could be lodged against the accused.

This is the second molestation attempt in the orthopaedics department during the last one month. On July 13, one patient was raped by an ambulance driver. On the basis of CCTV footage, the police arrested the driver within a week.
