Jamshedpur, June 21: Though the season of rains (read monsoon) has arrived in Jharkhand, the rainfall activity is not up to the mark, revealed the data available from the IMD.
In June, the state has so far experienced a 41 percent rain deficit. According to Met data, against a normal of 92.5 mm of rain, the state so far has received 54.7 mm.
Chatra and Garhwa districts were facing a major shortfall of 89 percent. Both districts have so far recorded less than 10 mm of rain against the normal of over 60 mm.
Capital Ranchi was also facing a deficit of 42 percent rain. Data shows against a normal of 97.2 mm, Ranchi has so far recorded 56 mm of rain.
According to Met data, none of the districts had scored surplus rain so far after the advent of monsoon in Jharkhand.
But, weathermen were hopeful that rainfall in the remaining days of June will help in recovering the deficit.
“We are expecting a good shower show later this month in most of the districts which will help in reducing the deficit figures,” said Abhishek Anand, head of Ranchi Met Centre.
Agriculture experts warned that deficient rain might hamper sowing and proper grooming of Kharif crops.
