New Delhi, May 17: The Supreme Court on Wednesday remarked that divorces seem to be arising from love marriages, reports Bar and Bench.
A bench of Justices BR Gavai and Sanjay Karol was hearing a transfer petition arising out of a matrimonial dispute when a counsel in the case informed the Court that the marriage was a love marriage.
Justice Gavai responded by stating,
“Most divorces are arising from love marriages only.”
The Court proposed mediation, which was opposed by the husband. However, the Court said that in view of a recent judgment, it could grant divorce without his consent.
Subsequently, the bench called for mediation.
