Dumka, Dec.27: Didimuni Marandi, a widow hailing from Pokhariya village under Shikaripara police station of Dumka district, has been running from pillar to post to bring back her daughter Miru Tudu (20) who had been allegedly trafficked to New Delhi three years back on an offer of a lucrative job.

Marandi has submitted an application to SP Dumka Ambar Lakda on Sunday seeking the rescue of her daughter. Miru along with another girl Chand Muni Murmu of the neighbouring Makda Pahadi village was taken to Delhi by a woman named Aarti Hansda hailing from Kirtipur village under Rampurhat police station of Bengal in 2018.

At the time when both the tribal girls left for Delhi, they were minors and were promised lucrative job opportunities by Hansda. But their parents complain that they have not been able to even talk to their daughters for a long time.

“Miru talked to her mother once 8-9 months back when she narrated her rues while working as a domestic help in a household situated at 34, Kalimarg in New Delhi and asked for her rescue,” Munshi Marandi, Miru’s brother in-law said, adding that another trafficked girl however had never contacted her parents ever since.

Munshi, while suggesting foul play on the part of Aarti Hansda, added that she always had a casual approach whenever they contacted her over the phone to bring back Miru Tudu.

A formal complaint regarding the trafficking of both the tribal girls was also made by their parents at the Shikaripara police station one month back. But no response from the police prompted Didimuni to approach the SP for the rescue of her daughter who, she believes, has been going through a rough time.

“My mother-in-law now cries day and night to get her younger daughter rescued who otherwise did not take me or anyone else into confidence to send her to the faraway place being influenced by the false promises of someone unknown to them,” Munshi stated.

Meanwhile, SP Ambar Lakda said that attempts were being made to trace out the trafficked girls and to send a police team to New Delhi for their rescue.

“We have contacted our counterparts in New Delhi on the basis of whatever information has been provided by the parents of the trafficked girls for their rescue at the earliest,” the SP added.
