Datia, June 28: A mini truck crashed into a river on Wednesday in Datia, Madhya Pradesh, killing five persons, three of whom were children, and injuring several others, a police officer said.
On Wednesday at around six in the morning, the event took place close to Buhara Village within the boundaries of Dursada Police Station. The mini truck was carrying about 30 passengers.
“A mini truck carrying around 30 people fell into a river near Buhara village in the district in which five people died and many others sustained injuries. These people were going to attend a wedding function in Jatara in Tikamgarh district from Bilheti village in Gwalior district,” Datia Collector Sanjay Kumar said.
Three children, a youth, and a woman are among those who passed away.
As soon as they learned about the event, the police arrived on the scene, launched a rescue effort, and transported the survivors to the local hospital. Nevertheless, the family members said that there may be one more individual in the river for whom rescue efforts were underway, he added.
Speaking further, he stated that there was a bridge being built nearby and that although the vehicle driver’s recklessness was mostly to blame, the construction company should have placed a warning sign at the divergence point.
Further action will be taken in accordance with the results of the investigation, he added.
Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the Chief Minister, has acknowledged the accident and pledged financial support of Rs 4 lakh to each of the decedent’s kin and Rs 50,000 to each of those injured, said the state Home Minister Narottam Mishra.
