Khargone, May 9: Rakesh Gupta, Inspector General (IG) of Indore Rural Range, said on Tuesday afternoon that 23 people had died as a result of the Khargone bus tragedy.
Around 8:30 am on Tuesday in the Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh, a private passenger bus fell from the Dongargaon bridge close to the Dasanga region within the jurisdiction of the Oon police station.
IG Gupta said, “23 people have died so far in the Khargone bus accident. About 20-25 injured are being treated in Khargone district hospital and 11 seriously injured have been referred to Indore.”
In the early stages of the investigation, determining the accident’s causes is fairly challenging. The explanation won’t be known until a thorough inquiry has been conducted, according to Gupta, because the bus driver, who is receiving treatment, keeps revising his account of what occurred.
“When we spoke to the driver, he gave us different versions. First he said, a vehicle came in front and then he told us that the belt of the bus broke down. Therefore, after the complete investigation, including mechanical probe will be done and then we will know the actual reason for the accident,” the officer said, adding that their first priority is the treatment of the injured.
When asked how many people boarded the bus, he responded that the full scope of the probe will reveal that information as well.
The state government offered urgent financial aid of Rs 4 lakh to each family of a deceased person, Rs 50,000 to each critically injured person, and Rs 25,000 to each person who suffered minor injuries as a result of the accident.
In addition to expressing his sorrow over the bus disaster, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also declared ex-gratia for the families of the victims and the injured.
The Prime Minister declared that the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) would provide Rs 2 lakh to the family members of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured.
