Mumbai: Massive fire breaks out in high rise building; seven dead, several injured

Mumbai, Jan 22: A massive fire broke out in a multi-story building near Bhatia Hospital in Mumbai on Saturday morning.

According to initial reports, the fire started around 7:30 a.m. on the 18th floor of the Kamla Building on Nana Chowk in the city’s Gowalia Tank area.

It has been classified as a Level 3 fire by the Mumbai Fire Brigade. Thirteen fire engines are on the scene to extinguish the blaze, as are five ambulances to transport any potential casualties to the hospital.

The injured were taken to Bhatia hospital. According to a doctor, 12 of the 15 injured are being treated in the general ward, while 7 people have lost their lives in the fire.

Firefighting and rescue efforts are currently underway.
