Mumbai, April 12: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police Department has called BJP leader Kirit Somaiya and his son Neil to appear in court tomorrow, in connection with the alleged misappropriation of funds gathered to prevent the decommissioning of the aircraft carrier INS Vikrant.
A three-member EOW team conducted searches for BJP leader Kirit Sommaiya at his office and other locations earlier today.
The Maharashtra government claimed on Tuesday that BJP leader Kirit Somaiya and his son Neil have gone missing after a complaint was filed against them for alleged theft of cash raised to prevent the aircraft carrier INS Vikrant from being scrapped.
On Tuesday, Maharashtra Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil said the state government will inquire about the location of BJP leader Kirit Somaiya, who is protected by the CISF’s ‘Z’ category and is facing a cheating case in Mumbai.
On the basis of a complaint filed by a former Army man, the city police filed a cheating case against former Lok Sabha member Kirit Somaiya and his son Neil Somaiya last week.
Notably, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut has accused them for misappropriation of over Rs 57 crore collected in the name of saving the decommissioned naval aircraft carrier ship Vikrant, which was scrapped in 2014.
