Ranchi, Feb.10: Muskan Khan, who led pro-Hijab protest in Karnataka, was today honoured with Fatima Sheikh Savitri Bai Phule Award” in Jharkhand capital.
Anjum Ibrar Foundation gives the award every year to a woman who plays an active role in any field of society. A cheque of Rs one lakh with a citation is given under the award.
Anjuman Islamia President Ibrar Ahmed announced the award during a press conference organized by Sajha Manch Jharkhand (Samajh) at a city hotel to condemn the controversy over Hizab.
Those present during the announcement included philanthropist Father Mahendra Peter, Ratan Tirkey, Jyoti Singh Mathar, Jai Singh Yadav, Professor Harvinder Singh, Rajkumar Nagvanshi, Professor Juberi, Haseeb Akhtar, Councilor Nazima Raja, Dr. Sajida Khatoon and Anita Yadav besides others.
Announcing the award Ahmed said that the aim of giving the award to Khan is not to humiliate anyone but to give a message that controversy on freedom to choose dress is wrong in the country.
“Our aim is that whether a woman is in a veil, whether she is in a hijab, whether she is in a chunni, no one should have any problem in this. I think religion gives positive energy,” Ahmed said.
Earlier Father Mahendra Peter said that the incident of Karnataka is painful.
“Country is the common forum. The tricolor is the common platform. Our country is very big. God is love. Do we really believe in the tricolor? If we had believed in the tricolor, such an incident would not have happened,” Peter said.
Professor Harvinderveer Singh said: “Today some people are flouting the Constitution of India. No one has the right to decide what to wear and what to eat. What has happened in Karnataka is under a conspiracy. Efforts are being made to destroy the civilization of this country. We have to be alert. We salute the bravery of that girl Muskan.”
