Ranchi, Sept 28: The National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL), Gurugram, a constituent Board of Quality Council of India on Wednesday organised a day-long awareness programme about need, importance, benefits, process for NABL accreditation for scientists at the Birsa Agricultural University (BAU).
Addressing the event, BAU Vice Chancellor Dr Onkar Nath Singh urged the scientists handling different labs of BAU to sincerely learn the nuances of accreditation process and try to get their labs accredited in due course as it would enhance the credibility of their tests, products, services, reports and recommendations and provide legal tenability. In the face of increasing moral degradation, adulteration and dishonesty in almost every walk of life, accreditation certificates would add confidence to the activities being carried out by the accredited laboratories, he said.
Mallika Gope, Director of NABL said that focused trade and industry policies of the Government of India have created quality consciousness in domestic trade and provided greater trust for export. As a consequence, testing centres and laboratories have to demonstrably operate at an internationally acceptable level of competence. Laboratory accreditation is a third party attestation conveying formal demonstration of its competence, impartiality and consistent operation in performing specific conformity assessment activity. By this procedure, an authoritative body gives formal recognition of technical competence for specific tests/ measurements based on third party assessment and following International standards.
She further added that after proper assessment, NABL gives accreditation to various kinds of biological, chemical, electrical, electronics, mechanical, non destructive, forensic, radiological, Photometry, fluid flow testing labs. With NABL accredited laboratory reports, the products get international acceptance, seamless access to the global market, enhanced customer confidence and satisfaction, robust quality management system, better operational control, assurance of accurate and reliable results, cost reduction and are time and money efficient, Gope added.
NABL Deputy Director Malancha Das detailed the process of online application, acknowledgement, document review, pre assessment, final assessment, scrutiny of assessment report by NABL, recommendation & approval and finally issuance of accreditation certificate by NABL.
Earlier, welcoming the guests, Dr DK Shahi, Chairman, Dept of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry and Nodal Officer of NABL at BAU outlined the objectives of NABL and benefits of lab accreditation by NABL. Prof of Soil Science Dr BK Agrawal conducted the proceedings of the programme.
